Sadly
it's a relatively quiet mailbag this month, so much so that I'm beginning to
think that you are all so completely satisfied with the quality of
Asian movies today that you have absolutely nothing to say on the
topic! Come on people, don't be shy, drop us a line and I
may even consider offering a prize to the star letter next month.
Don't delay, head over to the Contact

Q.
Hi. I think you have a great website as you publish forthcoming releases of the Shaw classics from Celestial months in advance.
Can you try and source some recent pics of Asian Movie Queen Li
Ching? I know she was in heavy debt due to gambling in the 80s and 90s but I believe singer Paula Tsui has helped her repay all the debt. I am told she is working in HK but her fans would really like to see her today and how gracefully she has aged.
Thanks and do keep up the excellent work! - Terence Lee
A.
Firstly, I have to say that we really do have the nicest readers
around. So many other websites seem to be littered with fans
nitpicking or bitching about the content but it's very satisfying
to see that you guys are always very positive about the site and
for that I truly thank you.
Anyway,
that's enough mutual arse kissing for one mailbag so I'm going to
move right along to the bad news. Unfortunately I've drawn a
blank on locating any recent pics on Queen Li Ching. She
seems to have been something of an enigma, even back in her heyday,
but I'll keep digging and if I find something I'll be sure to pass
it onto you.
Q.
How about this then, as you cannot set up a site selling autographs how about you ask the star to sign some autographed pictures then pre-sell them which will help you fund your trip. All the
best - Lee
A.
Personally I was never all that excited by an illegible scrawl on
a piece of paper that was supposedly a star's signature but I
think the main problem with the idea is that celebrities tend to
sell their autographs privately these days However, if it's what people
really want then I'll see what I can do about getting some
autographs for future competitions but if it's only you that enters Lee I'm
gonna be pissed!
Q.
Hi DDUK, do you know what happened to Momentums Shaw Brothers library. I have been waiting for ages for there 8 Diagram Pole Fighter. Here in the UK we seem to be well behind in the DVD stakes compared to the U.S. - Lee
A.
Well a little bird (or maybe she's a big bird, its hard to tell
just by hearing the voice) did let slip to me recently that Momentum are working
on bringing some of the other Shaw titles to the UK. I can't
give you any solid release dates yet but as soon as we know you
can guarantee it
will feature in the news section.
Q.
There was a question in the mailbag for march '07 about a movie with 3 men that had invincible body parts
- arms, legs, etc. This movie does exist i saw it on tv when i was young also. I am also searching for the name of this movie....i have been looking for it for years and no one seems to have ever seen it or heard of it...i would give anything to find it.. - Tim W
A.
Sadly we still haven't been able to dig up any details on this
one but I'll print your description here for another month to
see if anyone comes forward. That dusty old DVD being used as a
coaster in the DDUK offices is still available to anyone that can
provide the title (we promise it isn't a copy of 'Shira: The
Vampire Samurai'!)
Q.
What is the main theme music from secret rivals. I really want that track. Its also the same song thats in moon
warriors. Please help me out - Nathan
A.
We weren't entirely sure which track you meant but Mike seems to
believe that you are referring to the title music to 'Secret
Rivals' which is actually a piece of music
"borrowed" from 'The Big Gundown' and is by Ennio
Morricone.
