GAME OF DEATH

AKA:  Bruce Lee's Game of Death

Year: 1978    Reviewer: Andrew Saroch

So much has been written and said about this misguided disaster that there barely seems much point in expanding upon it. What Bruce Lee had intended as the ultimate martial arts movie statement turned, after his death, into a laughable and embarrassing mixture of second-rate film-making and badly inserted excerpts from a number of Lee's other films. The brief scenes that actually feature Lee's original 'Game Of Death' footage only help to condemn the rest of this shambolic mess.

Even the curious Hong Kong film viewer should steer well clear of this dreadful film.

Distributor:  Hong Kong Legends

Region:  2 (PAL)

Running Time:  96 mins

Video:

Letterboxed at 2.35:1.  This has to be the best remaster of a Bruce Lee movie that Hong Kong Legends have done so far.  It is cleaned up to near perfection with no noticeable scratches or defects.  Colours are clean and accurate with high levels of detail.

Audio:

English DD 5.1 with removable Dutch subtitles.

Extras:

- Audio commentary with Bey Logan

- Five deleted scenes

- Rare photo archive

- "Game Of Death Revisited" 40 minute featurette

- Dan Inosanto Jeet Kune Do seminar

- Dan Inosanto interview

- Game Of Death retrospective

- 2 TV spots

- History of Jeet Kune Do

- Taky Kimura interview

- George Lazenby interview

- Outtakes

- An HKL documentary entitled "Legacy Of The Dragon"

- 3 trailers for this film as well as a selection of HKL promos

- An animated biography for Lee and still ones for Dan Inosanto and Kareem Abdul Jabbar

The film may be a poor attempt at patching together the only footage that remained but this disc is a superb tribute to Lee and a must for all collectors.
