Region: 2
Distributor: Hong
Kong Legends
Chapters: 36
Picture:
Anamorphic
2.35:1 original aspect ratio. Considering that the print HKL
had to source from was not in great shape, the resulting
picture quality is astounding. Colours are generally bright,
motion is fluid, and the black levels are very good. It’s
not quite up to the standard of the sequel - which is almost
perfect - but it is the best it has ever looked, and is
unlikely to ever look better.
Sound: Cantonese
or English language in DD5.1 surround sound with removable
English or Dutch subtitles.
Trailers: Original
HK trailer, and specially prepared HKL trailer. It is always
fascinating to compare the trailers, and again, the class
and quality of HKL shines, as even their trailers show the
hard work and professionalism afforded the titles they
restore.
Extras:
These include the following :
-
Audio commentary with Bey Logan and Mark King. This is
strange because King has never seen the film before,
although he had a role in it, and confesses to hating Hong
Kong movies! Throughout the commentary, Bey continually
tries in vain to convert Mark, but seems to enjoy the
challenge. I probably would have told him to go within 5
minutes, but in the end all is well, and we are still
treated to the usual wealth of information. I expect HKL
will do a bit more research before asking someone to
accompany Bey again!
-
Animated Biography Showcase. This is
interesting on its first viewing, but is the usual HKL
addition.
-
2 interviews with Jet Li. The first takes
place at a convention, and has a promotional feel, while the
other is more interesting and gives a greater insight into
Li himself.
-
Production photo gallery. (More like stills from the film!)
